Well, I might as well start with some knitting content. Last Christmas (and I mean Christmas ‘06, for Pete’s sake) I offered to make my mom a pair of socks. Thank goodness she’s laid back, because it took me over a year to finish them:

Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport in Mountain Creek. Nothing fancy, just double moss stitch.
They’re sitting on my new Knitter’s Block that I got at Stitches West in February. I’m a relative newcomer to the whole world o’ fiber, and this was my first Stitches. I didn’t take any classes– maybe next year– just wandered around the convention floor until I got over-saturated with all the input. I couldn’t take it all in, but it was a good opportunity to see some local friends who don’t have a brick-and-mortar shop (yet), and get supplies to knit my own rockin’ socks.
By the way, I’m not the only one in the family who loves fiber. Here’s Her Catness with some of my loot from the show:

There’s one in every class. You know, kindergarten, first grade– usually not past that age, because kids figure out how school works by then. There’s always a kid, or two, who puts his hand up whenever the teacher asks a question, throws his hand up in the air, straining to be called on, quivering with the desire and energy of it, and when the teacher calls on him to answer, he says, “Ummm… oh…. yeah… I forgot!”
Yup, that’s me. I hopped on the blog bandwagon, all excited about starting a blog, and, well… I forgot. Life just keeps getting in the way of blogging, doesn’t it? I read blogs, and I think about blogging, but I just don’t get to it. I have tons of blog posts stacked up in my head, so many that putting them all down just seems overwhelming, and I give up.
One of my favorite writing books is Bird by Bird, by Anne Lamott. If you know it, this will make sense. Her advice is good for blogging, too, eh? Blog by blog; just take it blog by blog.

1. Start a blog.
2. Apply to grad school by the February 1st deadline.
3. Get 10,000 steps a day.
4. When you feel like snacking, eat a piece of fruit first.
5. Make art once a week.
6. Sew something you love to wear.
7. Find the quiet place once a day.
8. Do something about that stuck place you have.
9. If you got it out, put it back.
10. Get your hands dirty once a month.
